WE ARE MOVING FORWARD

Managing parking and traffic is an essential public service supporting the local communities and economies. Traffic and parking teams managing town centres and destinations for the benefits of residents, visitors and businesses.

They are working to: ensure the free flow of traffic and public transport; provide safe routes for pedestrians, cyclists, children and people with disabilities; and make space for delivery vehicles, electric vehicles and new mobility services.

Besides being a public service, parking is in itself a business, generating valuable revenue for local authorities and a range of private sector providers. This means parking operations are continually working to harness data, deploy new technologies and provide a seamless and secure service to drivers.

The parking sector is:

  • Developing cashless payment via the National Parking Platform (NPP)

  • Mapping the kerbside using Digital Traffic Management Orders

  • Rolling out of electric vehicle infrastructure

  • Delivering cleaner air by tackling vehicle emissions

  • Exploring the possibilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
